Points of interest : Later reformed into 1404 from September 1979.

Involved in a shunting collision at Fratton (Portsmouth) in 1965.

Again involved in a collision with a  locomotive at Eastleigh depot early in  Feb 1972.

Unit suffered a catastrophic failure on the 17th November 1987 and was withdrawn less than a week later.

All carriages were eventually scrapped at Meyer Newman, Snailwell
