1st - 1972 - Swanage branch closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
2nd - 1960 - all steam services on the Portsmouth/Eastleigh/Andover route are turned over to DEMU operation
2nd - 1967 - Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells West line closed and DEMU services transferred to other services
3rd- 1965 - First thumper passenger run on the North Down Line
4th - 1965 - Full Tadpole services commence on the North Downs Line
5th - 1985 - Cymru Demu Tour featuring 1017 and 1032
11th - 1979 - 1032 goes through the barriers at Charing Cross.
27th - 1960 - Hampshire unit 1115 undertakes trials on the Oxted/Uckfield lines
28th - 1960 - 1014 involved in a collision with a 4-epb unit

1st - 2014 - 1101 moves for the first time under its own power in over 8 years
4th- 1961 - 1101 is one of the first units to receive an orange VEE

4th - 2002 - 1001 returns to Charing Cross on regular service trains on hire to Connex.
5th - 1973 - Winchester to Alton line closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
14th - 1966 - Fawley branch closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
28th - 2004 - Last day for the thumpers on the Oxted - Uckfield shuttle - Replaced on the 1st March by class 171
1st - 1987 - Bramlay Bunker Tour featuring 1133 and 1126
1st - 2004 - Class 171 take over the Oxted- Uckfield route from the Thumpers
6th - 1967 - New Romney Branch closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
7th - 1966 - Horsham to Shoreham branch closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
11th- 1966 The Great St Trinians Train Robbery is released in cinemas across the UK. This film famously featured DEMU 1102 in the chase towards the end of the film
14th- 1980 - at 2105hrs multiple units involved in the Appledore derailment
20th - 1961 - 1018 involved in a collision with a 4epb unit at Cannon Street station - returned to service 5 months later
21st- 1970 - London and North Kent rail tour featuring 1033 and 1119
24th - 1955 - British Transport Commission approves plans for the Southern Region DEMU's as part of a £797,000 modernisation package
27th - 1987 - Dormansland collision ( with a fallen tree) involving unit 205002
31st - 2003 - All remaining stock required to be fitted with TPWS ( Train protection warning system)

5th - 1957 - Fire at Cannon St Signal box forces the authorities to bring forward the implementation date for the new thumpers

26th - 1960 - DMBSO / TSO and DTC for units 1127-1133 ordered
30th - 1977 - units 1034/1033 used on the last day demu service between Brighton and Exeter

3rd - 1964 - 1118 - Moves from Eastleigh to St Leonards
4th - 1978 - 1111 sent to Eastleigh for a prototype refurbishment including gangways,false ceiling, lighting, PA system and a seating layout redesign.
5th - 1969 - Lewes to Uckfield branch closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
6th - 1957 - First 7 Hastings units (6s) went live following a signalbox fire at Cannon Street
6th - 1961 - DMBSO of unit 1108 severely damaged in a collision with an M7 at Eastleigh
6th - 1979 - Tadpole Fairwell Tour - featuring units 1204/1206/1203
6th - 1986- Full electric service timetable introduced on the Hastings line, with all Demu being withdrawn over the next few days.
9th - 1986 - 1017 and 1018 work 18.00 Cannon St - Hastings, the last booked passenger service from Cannon St.
11th - 1986 - 1013 and 1018 work the last day of DEMU's on the Hastings line
12th - 1979 Class 206 Tadpole Unit 1201 was disbanded
12th - 1980 - All catering facilities are withdrawn from the Hastings service, although the buffet cars remained in service.
14th - 1990 Final Hastings unit 203001 formally 1011 is withdrawn from service and later became departmental unit 1067
16th - 1956 - DTC's for 1119 - 1122 ordered
18th - 2004 - 1125 becomes the first ex Connex unit to be sold for preservation to the Mid Hants railway - moving under its own power to Alton from Selhurst
20th - 1995 - Pinner Pieman tour featuring 1133
28th - 1982 - 1031 buffet car (Caroline) conveys Pope John Paul II between Gatwick and Victoria
31st - 1985 - Battersea Park Collision involving 1309/1113. The driving trailer of 1113 60812 lived on for a few months when paired with former Hastings vehicles to become 206101
9th - 1958 - Hastings DEMU take over the whole service on the London to Hastings via Battle route.
10th - 1970 - Godstone derailment involving Hastings unit 1034
13th - 1965 - DEMU run the last days service on the Cuckoo line.
14th - 1958 - Dmbso and DTC for units 1119-1122 delivered
15th - 1964 - Bexhill West branch closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
21st - 1957 - Technical appraisal of the Hastings units appears in the Railway Gazette
25th - 1959 - British Transport Commission authorise construction of the Oxted Units
26th- 1971 - Unit 1205 is used between Brighton and Kemptown to mark the closure of the line.
29th - 1964 - Murder of Yvonne Laker on a thumper between Winchester and Basingstoke
5th - 1966 - unit 1103 becomes the first unit to be painted blue
14th - 1962 - DMBSO/DTC/TSO for units 1127-1133 delivered
29th - 1981 - 1031 buffet car ( Caroline) conveys Charles and Diana to their honeymoon from Waterloo to Romsey
4th - 1986 - 1131 collides with a 4cig unit at Portsmouth and Southsea
7th - 1957 - 1101 exhibited at Eastleigh for the first time at the Open day.
9th - 2012 - Preserved thumpers website is created
9th - 1986 - Unit 1131 is damaged when it collides with a 4cig unit in Portsmouth
12th - 1957 - 1101 commences test runs in the Fareham / Portsmouth / Southampton area
9th - 1968 - Polegate to Hailsham line closed and DEMU are transferred to other services
15th - 1964 - Romsey to Andover branch closes and DEMU are transferred to other services
16th - 1957 - 1103 becomes the first unit to have an accident when it is involved in a slight collision with Western region 6 set at Eastleigh. It was the units first day of service.
16th - 1957 - Hampshire units take over the Portsmouth to Southampton /Salisbury service
13th - 1958 - TSO for units 1101-1118 ordered. DMBSO/TSO/DTC for untis 1123-1126 ordered
13th - 1984 - Severn Valley Rambler tour involving 1032
15th - 1994 - Cowden rail disaster
22nd - 1992 - 1031 buffet car (Caroline) becomes part of the first standard gauge passenger service into the Channel Tunnel.

1993 - Driving trailer from unit 1121 is withdrawn, this is the last surviving vehicle from a 204 formation and was preserved by the Hastings Diesel Group
2nd - 1957 - DMBSO and DTC carriages for units 1101-1118 delivered to Eastleigh
4th - 1957 - All 18 Hampshire units commence service
5th - 1967 - Hither Green rail disaster involving units 1007 and 1017
13th - 1959 - Units 1105/07/11/12/14 are reduced to 2H
16th - 1955 - DTC for Hampshire units 1101-1118 ordered
16th - 1958 - DEMU's take over all workings on the Fawley branch
17th - 1987 - 1104 suffers a catastrophic engine failure and is permanently withdrawn a week later.
27th - 2004 - Last Thump tour using 1109/1101 and 1133
27th - 1971 - Unit 1131 involved in a collision at Portsmouth
30th - 1965 - unit 1123 - 2nd class compartment in the DTC is converted to luggage space.
13th - 1956 - DMBSO for units 1110-1118 and 1119-1122 are ordered
13th - 1956 - DMBSO , TFK AND TSO for Hastings units 1001-1007,1011-1019 and 1031-1037 are ordered
26th - 1959 - TSO for units 1101 to 1118 are delivered. DMBSO/TSO/DTC for units 1123-1126 are delivered
